Get Creative with 'Surface and Fire' Raku Ceramics Workshop at Tampa Museum of Art |
A four-week hands-on ceramics experience inspired by legendary artist Jun Kaneko |

Looking for a unique hands-on experience in Tampa? The Tampa Museum of Art is hosting Surface and Fire – A Jun Kaneko Inspired Raku Firing, a four-week ceramics workshop that promises to ignite your creativity.
This immersive workshop runs Wednesdays, June 3 through June 24, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants will explore the bold forms and graphic surfaces that define Jun Kaneko's iconic ceramic practice. Over the first three weeks at the Tampa Museum of Art, students will construct sculptural pieces (no larger than eight inches cubed) and apply raku-specific glazes with an emphasis on mark-making, pattern, and architectural presence.
The excitement culminates in the fourth week at the City of Tampa Golding Art Studio, where participants will fire their pieces in the traditional raku style—pulling glowing ceramics from the kiln and witnessing the dramatic transformations of post-fire reduction. It's a thrilling, unforgettable experience whether you're a beginner or have some pottery experience.
Located at 120 W Gasparilla Plaza in downtown Tampa, this workshop is open to adults ages 18 and up at a beginner to intermediate level. Spaces are limited, so be sure to register soon!
