Tampa Riverfest 2026: The Ultimate Family Weekend Returns May 1-2

Free waterfront festival featuring live music, hot air balloon glow, wiener dog derby, and brand-new Kids Zone

Mark your calendars, Tampa Bay families! One of the region's most anticipated annual events, Tampa Riverfest, returns to the downtown waterfront on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, 2026. This free, two-day festival transforms the Tampa Riverwalk into a vibrant celebration of food, music, and family fun.

Presented by Publix Super Markets and hosted by Friends of the Tampa Riverwalk, Riverfest spans from Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to Water Works Park, offering something for every member of the family.

Friday Night: Taste of the Riverwalk & Live Music

The festivities kick off Friday evening at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park with live music, food trucks, and the popular Taste of the Riverwalk. From 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, festival-goers can purchase wristbands to sample delicious offerings from participating restaurants along the Riverwalk. The evening culminates with a spectacular Hot Air Balloon Glow at sunset, lighting up the downtown skyline.

Saturday Highlights for Families

Saturday brings an action-packed lineup starting with the Paddle Invasion at Water Works Park at 8:30 am, where paddlers compete in races along the Hillsborough River. Following that, families can join Yoga in the Park at 9:00 am for a donation-based class suitable for all levels.

Kids will love the Wiener Dog Derby, one of the largest dachshund gatherings in Florida, featuring races, games, raffles, and even foster dogs available for adoption. The derby runs from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and promises to be one of the cutest events of the year.

New for 2026 is the Kids Zone, offering dedicated activities and entertainment specifically designed for younger festival-goers. Families can also enjoy the TacoFest Food Truck Rally from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, featuring four local food trucks serving unique taco creations.

Evening Magic: Lantern Parade & Water Ski Show

Saturday evening features the enchanting Riverfest Lantern Parade, where participants carry decorated paper lanterns along a one-mile illuminated walk from Water Works Park to Curtis Hixon Park. Lantern kits are available for purchase, or you can bring your own creation.

The Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team performs at 4:00 pm in front of Water Works Park, showcasing impressive tricks and stunts on the Hillsborough River. The night wraps up with another Hot Air Balloon Glow and live headliner performances on the main stage.

Getting There

Parking is available at nearby garages including William F. Poe Garage and Fort Brooke Garage. For a greener option, take advantage of the FREE bike valet at Curtis Hixon Park, or use the free TECO Line Streetcar connecting Ybor City to downtown. The Pirate Water Taxi also offers convenient stops along the Riverwalk.
